After growing up in Queens, New York, Ira came to the University of Pennsylvania in 1976 as a freshman in the Computer Science Department. After graduating he began a 42 year career at Penn in various roles in Information Technology, Facilities and Data Analysis. Along the way, he earned a Masters in Computer Science and a Finance and Accounting Certificate from the Wharton School.
Ira met his future wife, Flaura in 1980. They were married in 1983 and moved to Narberth, PA in 1986, where they have lived ever since. Ira and Flaura have two boys, Zachary, 31 and Andrew, 26 who were born and raised in Narberth.
Ira has been active in the Jewish Relief Agency which serves over 6,400 diverse low-income individuals across Greater Philadelphia by relieving hunger, improving lives, and strengthening community. The group packs over 3,000 boxes of food for delivery one Sunday each month.
In the last five years, Ira has been involved with the Narberth community by attending or watching Borough Council meetings, volunteering with the Shade Tree Commission and serving as Treasurer for the Narberth Borough Industrial Development Authority.
